Follow these tips and preventative measures below to help keep your jewelry looking its best.

DO

Check over your jewelry every couple of months to make sure settings hold their stones securely and clasps are firmly in place. Shake a piece of jewelry by your ear . If you hear a rattling sound, the stones are loose . Claw settings are vulnerable if caught on clothing or struck against hard surfaces. Gemstones, even diamonds, can loosen or get chipped. Remove your jewelry before doing housekeeping, gardening or swimming. Clean your jewelry at home using a mixture of l part mild liquid soap to 6 parts warm water. Apply it gently with a soft toothbrush and then dry off with a soft cloth.

AVOID

Avoid drastic temperature changes. It can bedamaging to emerald, topaz, tanzanite and other delicate gemstones. Take off your jewelry before entering a pool or hot tub. Chlorine in the water will damage or d iscolor jewelry. Avoid contact with cosmetics, perfumes, moisturizers, household cleaners ( especially those with chlorine or bleach), and products containing sulfur such as rubber gloves. Exposure can cause jewelry to discolor or prematurely tarnish.
